2nd Model Kriegsmarine Dolch für Offiziere by Eickhorn. Really interesting dagger here. This one has plain blade that is issue stamped "O.749" indicating this was depot owned by Ostsee Naval Base. This happened in the period and these pieces were lent out for dress occasions. The double oval Eickhorn maker mark is deeply executed dating this example to the early 30's. Peek just to the right and you will see the Marine issue stamp matching the scabbard throat. The blade rates an Exc++. The buffer pad remains. The early brass based, lightning bolt scabbard has wear and looks to have been repaired towards the tip. It has wear and bumps throughout, yet it retains nice detail with "reef knot" style bands. Both throat retaining screws remain intact. This type transitional dagger has no retaining button as we often see on these early examples. The brass based hilt and pommel have matching patina and most of the gilding is lost to time. The pommel is a 1938 replacement type as we would expect on this vintage dagger. The wood based grip is painted wood with brass double twist wire.

Rating:    Exc+/Exc++
