Imperial Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse 1914. The Imperial Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse was reauthorized by Emperor Wilhelm II on 5 August 1914 and was for award to personnel who performed a single act of bravery in combat. A wonderful cased example here! The Iron Cross is a multi-piece, die struck construction that has been soldered together. The single piece core is constructed out of an Iron sheet metal base that has been black enamel painted. The frame and back plate are constructed out of a silver alloy base. The obverse features; a patte style cross that has a centrally placed embossed "W" (cypher for King Wilhelm II), below a Kings crown and above "1914" to the lower arm, which is all on a black base and surrounded by a silvered ribbed/beaded row and a flat outlying border. The reverse features a soldered hinge, soldered round wire catch and pin marked "CD 800", (Carl Dillenius Pzorheim). The paint minimal wear and use. Only minor oxidization spots. The case is quite nice in patterned faux leather. It is made out of wood and pressed cardboard, with a simulated, leather covering. The interior top lid is lined in pearl satin and has an underlying pad. It features a Imperial Iron Cross outline and the words, "Zur Erinnerung an Deutschlands Grüße Beit". To the front is a spring loaded closure button. To the back is a staggered, internal bar hinge. The hinge and the closure button function well. The bottom interior of the case is made of tan flocking outlines the cross. The case is in good condition with some scuffs. A high quality private purchase example with Just the normal wear throughout. An excellent piece!
