1st Model (1934/35) Airforce Dagger (Luftwaffe Fliegerdolch) by Paul Weyersberg of Solingen. Ok so here we have a textbook example that someone has releathered. The plated blade on this one looks good! The "Paul Weyersberg" etched maker mark is nicely executed. It has a good mirror like finish to with along with a solid fit. It rates an Exc++ with minor wear. It retains it's factory buffer pad and yes, to those "in the know" you can peek under there and you can see an assembler's number. They did this on early pieces. The blue, pebbled releathered scabbard looks ok, but the seam to the obverse is unsightly. The solid nickel fittings show wonderful age patina and match the hilt in color and wear. The solid nickel chain has 9 upper ringlets and 14 lower, ending at a solid nickel clip. The clip has lost it's spring and movable section. The solid nickel hilt looks great! All four separately inserted brass sun wheel swastikas are visible. The silver between the legs was polished down at some point and this whole thing has nicely patinaed. The wood based, blue leather grip has aged quite nicely. It retains 2 of it's original 3 wire wrap. The leather has wear. Nope, not perfect but a decent early example. I figured I was ell as is, if this doesn't sell here in a few weeks I'll send it off to be releathered and bump the price up $400!
