Here's a good example of an worn officers sword. This one has a Exc++ blade with a nice distinct temper line. The blade is bright and clean with no nail catchers. Blade is seated through a multi-piece open tsuba with the tang secured with a bamboo peg. It is constructed of a wood base, covered in ray skin with the traditional 3 brass cherry blossom mekugi all wrapped in original brown cloth tape with a twist. The kabuto-gane, (pommel) is copper/brass with a copper sarute. The saya is wood based with original an original factory shrunken leather cover secured with 3 snaps. The ornate copper/brass ashi is in place for carrying. Tied to this is a tag in Japanese on one side to the other is the name, "Sadayoshi" the famous blade smith. The entire saya body is dent-free. It does have wee scratches and marks from normal period wear. A good condition Japanese type 98 with a stunning blade.
