A Numbered - Model 1933 Schutzstaffel Dienstdolch by Ernst Pack & Sohne of Solingen. Evidence suggests E. P. & S. was the earliest manufacturer of SS daggers. The blade on this one looks good. The acid etched “Meine Ehre Heißt Treue” motto and “E. P. & S. Solingen” maker mark are both and beautifully executed. The crossgrain looks great as you shine it in the light. The blade is nicely seated up against the hilt and the and the tip comes to a perfect point. The blade rates Exc++. It shows heavy scratches throughout and the odd bit of spotting. The steel based black anodized scabbard looks great. It has a few bruises towards the bottom. You can tell this thing had a vertical hanger on it at some point as the reverse of the top scabbard mount has been cleaned of its verdigris and the obverse clearly retains its period lacquered finish to the top. All four scabbard screws remain intact and the ball holds a nice round finish. The nickel-silver scabbard fittings are in excellent shape matching the crossguards in patina. The reverse of the lower crossguard SS membership numbered “125285” —perhaps some research could turn up who this guy was! It is also district stamped “I” (Munich). The grip is black died hardwood. It has chips and cracks. It has that typical lighter black/brown hue that is Textbook for these early E. Packs. The fits are all perfect. The solid nickel-silver eagle is wonderfully detailed and has a perfect fit. The SS roundel retains 98% of its enamel and has a perfect fit! A great example sure to please!
