A post WWII Federal Republic of Germany; “1957” Wehrmacht Dienstauszeichnung 1. und 2. Klasse für 18 und 25-jährige Dienstzeit. Issued to German veterans who were awarded these during the Third Reich era. Production of these awards ceased in 1986. This would have been awarded a Wehrmacht service member who gave 18 and 25 years of service. The Long Service Award was retroactive throughout a service member's career, encompassing Reichswehr service as well as service dating during and before World War I. They are both constructed out of an alloy metal base that has been silver washed / gold gilded. The obverse’s feature a pebbled pattée style cross with a centrally placed, encircled closed winged 1957 style national eagle. The reverse’s feature that same cross with an encircled “18” and “25” in place of the eagle. They have soldered-on/integral loops and rings which allow them to be attached to a two-place medal bar. The medal bar is constructed out of a alloy metal base. The obverse features the appropriate blue rayon ribbon. The reverse features a red wool backing and has a well working pin, hinge and catch assembly. The silver award measures 1 3/8 inches wide and tall and the gold measures 1 9/16 inches wide and tall. A nice assembly.
