NSDAP Gau Essen Badge

A Gau-Ehrenzeichen Essen. Instituted August 1, 1935, by Essen Gauleiter Josef Terboven. It is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been silver washed. The obverse features an upright broad sword with, a swastika on its grip, in front of a crossed hammer and pick with the dates “1925” and “1935” on each head. The full back reverse features a soldered-on pin, hinge and catch assembly. Typical age wear. It measures 41mm tall by 20.5mm wide. This is not to be confused with the commemorative rally day badge (see last photo) which is much larger. A rare piece.
