Kaiserliche Marine Verwundetenabzeichen 1918 in Schwarz. Instituted July 24, 1918, by Prussian King Wilhelm II, the Naval Wound Badge was awarded to those who were wounded in sea battles. One to two wounds it was issued in black, three and four times it was issued in silver and five+ times gold. The badge was also adopted by Bavarian King Ludwig III for the Bavarian navy. It is constructed out of a die stamped iron base that has been black enamel painted. The obverse features two cross broad swords on top of a fouled anchor that is on a pebbled backing and surrounded by a chain that runs through the top of the anchor. The hollow back reverse features a soldered on round wire catch, soldered on sheet metal hinge and steel round wire pin. Minor paint loss and oxidization throughout. It measures 1 13/16 inches tall by 1 9/16 inches wide.
