Prussian Pioneer Pickelhaube by Kläger & Cie 1916

M1895 - Imperial Preußen Pickelhelm der Pioniere für Mannschaften by Kern Kläger & Cie of New-Ulm 1916. It is constructed out of a multi-piece blackened leather base with steel fittings. The exterior leather and wappen have been treated. The front and center features a stamped steal Prussian Mannschaften issue state coat of arms (wappen), which features a filled-in crowned eagle clutching a scepter and crown in its talons, with a “FR” (Frederick the Great) monogram to its chest and a bannered King's motto: “Mit Gott für Koenig und Vaterland” to its wings and chest. The wappen is affixed with two soldered-on loops that are attached to the interior with steel keepers (post-war). The font visor peak has a black painted steel trim (cracked). The reverse shows a black painted steel spine with top vent hole, that is fixed open. The top has a steel based vented fixed enlisted spike that has the standard neck ring and is mounted to a round steel spike base. The base is secured with four steel round rivets that have flatwire prongs visible to the interior. The standard issue leather chinstrap (has been added), is maker marked and dated to the interior, and has two rectangular steel buckles and steel mounts (all oxidized) that are attached to the steel lugs. Surrounding the lugs are a Prussian (black and white) kokarden and Reichs (red, white and black) kokarden. The exterior shows stitching around the entire circumference which holds the separately stitched on neck guard, the front visor and liner. The interior features the standard issue leather liner (large tear) with the rounded perforated tongues and the leather string still intact. The interior is maker marked and dated “Kern Kläger & Cie New-Ulm 1916” and the neck guard is unit marked (illegible).
