United States - Bronze Star in Issue Case

United States, WWII – Bronze Star with Ribbon Bar and Button Bar in Issue Case. Instituted February 1944, the Bronze Star was awarded for bravery, acts of merit, or meritorious service. The star is constructed out of a die struck bronze base that has been bronze washed. The obverse features a small star on top of a larger embossed star. The reverse reads: “Heroic or Meritorious Achievement” in a circle on a star background. To the top is an integral rectangular ball loop and rectangular ring which holds a red, white and blue ribbon. The reverse has a bar and a soldered-on pin, hinge and catch assembly. It measures 1 3/8 inches wide and tall. Accompanying the award is the ribbon bar and enameled button attachment. All of this comes housed in its issue case. The case measures 3 ½ inches wide by 6 ½ inches deep by 1 inch thick. A complete assembly!
