An Early Model 1933 Hitlerjugend Fahrtenmesser by E. & F. Hörster of Solingen. Based on construction this knife can accurately be dated to 1934. The early blade on this one looks good. The acid etched “Blut und Ehre!” motto is nicely visible. The stamped “E. & F. Hörster Solingen” maker mark and dual line “Gesetzl. Geschützt” mark are beautifully executed. The fit continues to remain nice and tight. The blade rates an Exc+/Exc++. It shows age grey/spotting and surface scratches throughout. The leather buffer pad continues to remain intact. The steel based black painted scabbard is in nice condition. The edges have been hit against something several times. It retains 70% paint coverage and remains completely dent free. The brown “LFS” marked scabbard leather looks excellent. The cap portion of the snap is missing. The snap continues to work well. The cast iron based nickel-silver plated hilt retains 99%+ of its plating. The grip plates are black checkered bakelite and remain in excellent condition. No cracks or chips. Both nickel-silver rivets remain tightly secured. The small HJ diamond retains 99% of its enamel. Hörster was 1 of 3 of the earliest manufacturers of Hitler Youth Knives, and 1 of 2 manufacturers of the Leader Dagger. Yes, this piece has the correct die flaw.
