Wehrmacht Dienstauszeichnung 1. Klasse für 25-jährige Dienstzeit (Heer und Kriegsmarine). Instituted March 16, 1936, the 25 Year Wehrmacht Long Service (1st Class) was awarded for 25 years of good standing military service, which included time served in the Reichswehr, WWI and earlier. It is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been gold gilded. The obverse features a pebbled pattée style cross with a centrally placed, encircled closed winged national eagle griping a mobile swastika in its talons. The reverse features that same cross with an encircled “25” in place of the eagle. The top has a soldered-on loop and ring which holds 6 inches of blue rayon ribbon. The obverse of the ribbon features the appropriate golden Army/Navy eagle emblem. The emblem is attached with two flatwire prongs. The award measures 1 9/16 inches square. A rare and desirable piece.
