Here’s a post WWII Federal Republic of Germany; Official denazified “1957” Knights Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords. These were issued to German Veterans who were awarded these during the Third Reich. Production of these awards ceased in 1986. The Knights Cross is a multi-piece, die struck construction that has been soldered together. The single piece core is constructed out of an nonferrous base that has been black enamel painted. The two piece frame is constructed out of a silver base that has been silver washed and polished. A final protectant lacquer coating was applied over the entire award. The obverse features; a pattee style cross that has a centrally placed three-piece oak leaf cluster and “1939” to the lower arm, which is all on a black base and surrounded by a silvered ribbed/beaded row and a flat outlying border. The reverse features that same black base with a raised “1813” to the lower arm and has that same ribbed and flat outlying border. included is a machine stitched 23 inch long red, white and black silk ribbon. the ribbon is post-1945. The cross measures approximately 1 7/8 inches wide and tall. The case makes for a great display. An inexpensive alternative for any collector!
