A rare 40mm variation! The buckle is constructed out of a two piece die struck/stamped, steel base that has been gold gilded and black burnished. The obverse depicts the Imperial king's crown which is then encircled by detailed lines and enclosed by two twisted ropes. The crown is above a laurel leaf and berry wreath and below the Army motto: "GOTT MIT UNS" (God with us), which all lies on a smooth rectangular background. The thin steel prongs and catch remain in great condition. Minor oxidization age wear and fading. The obverse retains excellent detail. It measures approximately 2 3/8 inch wide by 1 3/4 inches high. A nice piece!
