Cased 2nd Class Social Welfare Decoration by L/15

An Ehrenzeichen für Deutsche Volkspflege 2. Stufe im Etui by L/15 - Otto Schickle of Pforzheim. This was awarded for merits in the field of the People’s Welfare, the Winter Relief, the care of the sick and wounded in peace and war, the rescue, the maintenance of German nationality and the care of German national comrades abroad. The award is constructed out of a two-piece die stamped tombak base that had been gold fire gilded with black and white enamel work and finished in a clear protective lacquer coating. The obverse features a vaulted gold outlined white Greek style cross behind a black national eagle clutching a gold wreathed black mobile swastika in its talons. The full back gold concave reverse features a soldered on block hinge, soldered on round wire catch and a coke bottle pin that is marked “L/15”. All of the components remain in well working condition. It measures 2 inches square. You can see the original lacquer coating to the white arms. The award comes housed in its issue case. The case is constructed out of wood and pressed cardboard, with a simulated, grained, red leatherette covering. The top features a pressed gold foil thin lined border. To the front is a brass base red enamel painted “mushroom head” spring loaded, closure button. To the back is a brass, staggered, internal piano hinge, with a steel hinge pin. Both the hinge and push button continue to work well. The interior lid of the case is lined in a blue satin and has an underlying pad. The bottom interior of the case is made of a blue velvet material that outlines the award. It shows the odd scuff throughout. The case measures 2 15/16 wide and long by 15/16 thick. A rare and desirable award, especially seeing it LDO marked!
