Triple etched Silvered Lionhead Sword by Anton Wingen

Beauty silver washed example here. The triple etched plated blade has light wear and a few scuffs towards the tip. certainly NM. The blade is stamped with' "Anton Wingen Jr. Solingen" Knignt logo below the obverse languet. A similar example is illustrated in Angolia reference pg 133. Real nice details to this hilt. This features the early political eagle to the languet. It's interesting that Wingen just took their Imperial era sword hilt die and replaced the languet section with the eagle and Presto! you have a 3rd Reich sword! The black enamel dent-free painted scabbard has wear and scrapes. This is a brass based example with silver wash. Most attribute these to be early SS swords used prior to the officer degan coming out in March 1936. I took lots of pic's. Look at the areas that would not have seen wear. There you can clearly see the silver. The high wear areas show wear down to the brass base. The top of the hilt expertly covers the tang with hand enhanced detail to the lion's hair. The head again is hand enhanced with inset evil looking glass eyes. The oak leaf and acorn motif is continued everywhere including the ferrule and back-strap. The grip is black celluloid and is in perfect shape without chips or cracks. It is wrapped with double twist brass wire. Good early sword.
