Weimar - 2nd & 1st Class Silesian Eagles

Weimar Republic - II und I. Stufe Schlesisches Bewährungsabzeichen. Introduced June 16, 1919, the Silesian Eagle was awarded for three months (1st Class) / six in the border guard (2nd Class) of service to members of the Freikorps and those who volunteered to defend their home land in the Silesian Uprisings. The obverse of both feature: a closed winged eagle (representing the heraldic eagle of Silesia) with a crescent and cross emblem to its chest, standing on a bannered “Für Schlesien”. The reverse of the 2nd class shows a semi-full back. The reverse of the 1st class shows four hollow rivets and the hardware is missing. There is no ribbon for the 2nd class. They each measure 1 3/16 inches wide by 1 11/16 inches tall.
