M1936 Schutzstaffel-Ehredegen für und Führer by Peter Daniel Krebs of Solingen. Introduced in 1935/36, the SS Officers Honour Degan was authorized for wear personally by Himmler as an award in recognition of special merit. Ownership required a signed certificate, was recorded in the SS Dienstaltersliste and was a part of the owner’s service records.
The 32-inch long, single edged, fullered, spear point tip, blade on this one looks excellent. The stamped lobster “Pet. Dan. Krebs. Solingen” maker mark is beautifully executed. It holds a nice matte finish. It has a perfect fit and tip. The blade rates Exc++/NM. It shows some surface scratches, one hit and minor age grey throughout. The white leather buffer pad remains intact. The steel based black enamel painted scabbard on this one looks excellent. It continues to hold 98% paint coverage and remains completely dent free. The steel lower slip fitting is properly secured. The top swirled burnished fitting looks excellent, properly secured with two dome-head screws. The very top of the scabbard throat is properly SS proof marked. The hilt looks excellent. The nickel-silver d-guard, is dual proof marked and has the proper drilled tip quillion. The ribbed wooden grip is correctly nickel-silver wire wrapped which is tightly secured with the reverse nickel-silver plate. The nickel-silver SS runes button is nicely burnished to the backgrounds and correctly set into place. The wood is in excellent shape, typical age toning to the high spots. The oak leaf ferrule has nice hand enhancing and burnished backgrounds. The screw-on nickel pommel remains intact with the step nut. Nicely finishing this is an early minty bullion officer portepee. Overall, a wonderful example I am proud to offer to the collecting community.
