A Type III - Ehrenzeichen des Deutschen Roten Kreuzes 1937 Verdienstkreuz im Etui. The award is constructed out of a two pieces of die stamped tombak that had been gold fire gilded with black, white and red translucent enamel work that was finished in a protective lacquer coating. The obverse features a gold outlined black DRK eagle clutching a golden wreathed black mobile swastika in its talons, with a red cross on a white shield to its chest, all in front of a vaulted gold outlined white Greek style cross. The full back reverse is gold and has a soldered on tombak block hinge, soldered on c-shaped catch and coke bottle pin. All are non-magnetic and continue to work well. There is a small soldered drop to the top left arm. The enamel work is beautiful! The award comes housed in its appropriate issue case. The case is constructed out of wood and pressed cardboard, with a simulated, grained, red leatherette covering. The top features a gold foil thin lined border. To the front is a “mushroom head” spring loaded, closure button. To the back is a gilded steel, staggered, piano hinge. Both continue to function well. The interior of the top lid of the case is lined in a blue velvet and has an underlying pad. The bottom interior of the case is made of a blue felt material that outlines the award. The case measures 3 wide and deep by 1 inch thick. A beautiful assembly!
