Early SS Dagger by E.P.&S.

A Model 1933 Schutzstaffel Dienstdolch by Ernst Pack & Sohne of Solingen. Evidence suggests E. P. & S. was the earliest manufacturer of SS daggers. The blade on this one looks good. The acid etched “Meine Ehre Heißt Treue” motto and “E. P. & S. Solingen” maker mark are both crisp and beautifully executed. The blade is nicely seated up against the hilt and the tip comes to a perfect point. The blade rates Exc++. It has been heavily cleaned, lightening the motto and maker mark, and leaving lengthways scratches throughout. The steel sheet, metal black re-painted scabbard looks great. The body remains dent free and it holds 99% paint coverage. The nickel-silver scabbard fittings are in excellent shape matching the crossguards in patina. One wee bruise to the top one. Four scabbard screws remain, they show evidence of being turned and one is a replacement, likely from the re-paint. The ball has been partially pushed in. The scabbard to crossguard fit looks great. The crossguards are textbook Pack and are in wonderful condition. The reverse of the lower crossguard is also district stamped “I” (Munich). The black died hardwood grip is in beautiful condition. There is the odd pressure mark and the slightest hairline crack to the top, through to the roundel and visible to back. The fits are all perfect. The solid nickel-silver eagle is wonderfully detailed and has a perfect fit. The SS roundel retains 99% of its enamel and also has a perfect fit. A desirable maker.
