Switzerland - Model 1943 Officer/NCO Dagger by Elsener Schwyz Victoria. Introduced on January 1, 1944, by November 4, 1943 Federal Council decree, the M43 dagger was for officers and higher NCOs to replace the sabre and épée. The drop forged, double-edged 209mm long blade on this one looks wonderful. The obverse is serialized “240838” and the reverse is maker marked “Elsener Schwyz Victoria”. Beautiful crossgrain, a perfect fit and sharp tip. The blade rates NM. It shows the slightest age spotting. The scabbard is sheet metal based and black enamel painted. It remains completely dent free and retains 99%+ paint coverage. The reverse is marked “S” (manufactured by "Basler Eisenmöbelfabrik AG" in Sissach) just above a screw that holds the separate plated throat. The leather hanger and nickel clip continue to work well. The cast iron heavily plated hilt is beautiful, with a mirror like finish. There are two light wood grained smooth grip plates that are in perfect condition. They are secured by three rivets that go through the tang. The pommel top has a unique three-hole screw top that is untouched. Original portepee is included. It shows minor soilage. Overall this piece is in gorgeous condition!
