M39 - Dolch für Staatsbeamte by Alcoso - Alexander Coppel of Solingen. The blade on this one is in great condition. The acid etched “Alcoso ACS Solingen” maker mark is dark, crisp and beautifully executed. The crossgrain is stunning, easily visible from the hilt to the tip. It has a perfect tip and solid fit! The blade on this one rates an Exc++/NM. There is typical runner marks. The original blue buffer pad continues to remain intact. The sheet metal-based nickel-silver plated scabbard is in wonderful shape with nice burnishing to highlight the details. The scabbard body depicts beautiful randomly pebbled panels and the two oak leaf and acorn bands. It remains completely dent-free. There is typical spidering to the edges. The throat retaining screw remains intact. The scabbard snugly fits up against the hilt. The crossguard and pommel are cast out of tombak that is nickel-silver plated and burnished. The crossguard wonderfully displays a regal eagle with outstretched wings clutching a wreathed swastika in its talons. The glamorous eagle head pommel is just as beautiful! The belly plate is plated steel with minor plating loss, and the ferrule is plated tombak. The hilt snugly holds together two mother of pear grip plates. They are in perfect condition. All of the exterior components match in plating, patina and condition. The top screw is unturned and I will leave it as it is, I know some like to give these things a hysterotomy bit a virgin at this point should stay that way. Overall this is a great example wonderfully features hand-fitted German craftsmanship. In my opinion this is one of the most elegant looking daggers made in the Third Reich.
