Here we have a Fire Service Merit Medal. This was awarded for merit within the Fire Service. It is constructed of a die struck bronze base that has been gold gilded. The round shaped obverse depicts a centrally placed bust of the monarch Wilhelm II in uniform surrounded by “Wilhelm II Imp Rex” and is also surrounded by “Verdienst UM Das Feuerl’schwesen” and is underneath two fire axes and a kings crown along with a bannered “WIR ii” and is above “Wessen” a half wreath and two batons. The reverse shows a full back with a recessed “Original”, along with a soldered on tombak block hinge, soldered on round wire catch and round wire pin. All are non-magnetic and in well working condition. Beautiful gold gilding remains! It measures approximately 1 1/4 inches wide by 1 1/2 inches tall. A nice early award!
