1st Model Luftwaffe Dagger by SMF

1st Model (1934/35) Airforce Dagger (Luftwaffe Fliegerdolch/Borddolch) by SMF of Solingen. The plated, double edged blade on this one has been cleaned and shows it's age. It has scuffs and the tip looks to have been repointed ever so slightly. The etched seated king “SMF Solingen” maker mark and proof mark are both correctly executed. The plating gives it a mirror like finish. The tip comes to a perfect point and the fit remains nice and tight. The blade rates NM/Mint-. It shows just minor scratches and age throughout. The blue pebbled leather buffer pad remains in place. The scabbard is constructed out of a steel sheet metal base that has been covered in a blue textured leather. The leather is in poor condition with loss primarily to the seam edge. The solid nickel-silver fittings look excellent. The bottom fitting is missing a screw the others are intact. The aluminum chain consists of 8 top ringlets and has 8 lower, connected to a well working OLC marked clip. The crossguard and pommel top are in wonderful condition with separately inserted brass sunwheel swas’. The grip is wood based and covered in a blue leather. It has the odd pressure mark throughout and some wear to the high areas. The triple brass wire wrap remains completely intact. A reasonably priced example!
