Albert Mebus, Solingen

The Albert Mebus, Stahlwarenfabrik, company began on April 1, 1920. In the 1922 Solingen und sein Industriebezirk book, Mebus advertised cutlery and household knives, from Brosshauserstrasse 21 in Solingen-Ohligs. That same year Mebus registered the "AMSO" trademark. In 1928, the firm was listed as a table cutlery manufacturer. On January 5, 1931, Albert Mebus registered with the Solingen chamber of commerce. During the Third Reich, early era SA daggers were made, Fisher estimates about 1,000. The company moved to Diepenbrucherstrasse 30 in 1939. After the war, Mebus drastically adapted their company to concentrate on house hold goods and focus on the grocery store sector. In 1969, the company moved to Hansastrasse 47. By the 1970's, Mebus adapted yet again and changed its focus to "Quality Around the Clock", wall clocks. By the 1980's the company was located on Kopernikusweg 3. Records indicate that the company dissolved on August 15, 1986. It is possible the business trade name was purchased by the "Braun" German appliance company and a partnership was clearly created under the Mebus Group (Albert Mebus GmbH & Co. KG). Today the company sells: wristwatches, wall clocks, alarm clocks and weather stations throughout Europe.
