Aug. Knecht, Solingen
The August Knecht, Stahl und Metallwarenfabrik, company officially began in 1825, though it claims its roots back to 1684. A. Knecht registered with the Solingen District Court on June 21, 1869. The "globus cruciger" (imperial orb) was registered in 1895. The company was recorded at Friedrichstrasse 55, Solingen in 1900. August Knecht and Carl H. Knecht were listed as the owners in 1914. In 1920, Knecht was specializing in the manufacturing of: knives, scissors, straight razors, shaving equipment, letter openers and engraving tools. Glass handles were also made. Knecht was advertising in Messer and Schere in the 1930s, when by Hugo Knecht was owner. During the Third Reich, early era SA and NSKK daggers were made. In 1945, the August Knecht company was located on Irler Strasse in Solingen-Wald.
