Ernst Bonsmann, Solingen


The Ernst Bonsmann, Dreiankerwerk, company began in 1866. It registered with the Solingen chamber of commerce on January 1, 1885. In 1900, the business was owned by Ernst and Hugo Bonsmann. Bonsmann specialized in making: surgical and veterinary instruments, along with pocket knives, fix blade knives, letter openers and scissors etc. By 1912, Bonsmann registered its three anchors trademark. In 1925, Hugo Bonsmann, the younger, took over management of the firm. Come the Third Reich era, early SA daggers were made-Fisher estimates 1,000. Bonsmann did not receive an RZM license in 1935. The business continued after the war. On November 26, 1997, there was a change in the commercial register. In 2000, records indicated Bonsmann was a wholesaler and selling parts to General Motors. Current records sates that the company manufactures and sells "Cutlery, especially household and professional knives", from two locations.
