Ernst Röttgen, Solingen

The Ernst Röttgen, Stahlwarenfabrik, company began in 1886. This metalworking business was listed as a maker of tableware in 1920. In the 1922 Solingen und sein Industriebezirk (above), Röttgen advertised "Table and dessert cutlery, bread, meat and vegetable knives". A year later, Röttgen registered its steamboat trademark. In 1932, the company was recorded at Baumstrasse 7-9. Come the Third Reich, early era SA daggers were manufactured-Fisher estimates 1,000. After the war, Röttgen remained in business and exported some knives. It is likely Röttgen could not keep up with Asian exports. On May 25, 2005, records indicated the company was inactive.
