F. Dick, Esslingen
The F. Dick, Stahlwaren- und Werkzeug-Fabrik, company was founded in 1778 by Johann Friedrich Dick. Dick's initial product line was files, until 1873 when it also added sharpening steels. In 1895, F. Dick registered their arrow trademark, with and without "F. Dick ". In 1889, Dick built a new factory in Kollwitz/Fleischmannstrasse in Esslingen, employing 100 men and expanded their product line to include; knives for butchers and chefs, cleavers and other specialized tools. During the Third Reich, early era SA/NSKK daggers were made in great quantity with a few subtle different manufacturer markings that did or did not include "Esslingen". Come 1935, Dick did not receive a RZM code. In 1940, Dick claimed to be the longest-established maker of butcher steels (Aelteste deutsche Fleischer-stahlfabrik) in all of Germany. Come September 1941, F. Dick was allotted the wartime letter-code: "jue" for their K98 bayonets. In April 1945, the factory was destroyed in a bombing raid. After the war, a new factory was built and the company resumed operations. In 1977, the company set up another factory in Bayreuth. In 1989, Wilhel Leutze the great grandson of Paul began managing their operations. In 1992, a sales office was opened in Farmingdale, New York. That same year Dick took over the "von den Steinen" company in Remscheid. In 1993, production moved to Switzerland. In 1997, the company relocated to Deizisau, Esslingen. Come 2017, Steffen Uebele took over the management of the company. F. Dick remains in business to this day manufacturing: kitchen and butcher knives, tools, sharpening steel and accessories.
