The Franz Steinhoff GmbH Stahlwarenfabrik company began in 1893. The "Mobile" trademark was registered in 1899 and "Mobile Solingen" in 1923. Steinhoff registered with the Solingen chamber of commerce on May 2, 1919. A 1926 letterhead shows that the company specialized in: scissors, knives, straight razors, shavers etc. The 1934 letterhead above shows the company specializing in: straight razors, shavers, razor blades, scissors, cutlery, pocket knives, bred, butcher and vegetable knives. During the Third Reich era, Steinhoff was manufacturing SA/NSKK daggers and HJ knives. Come 1935, the company was located on Baustraße 21. It received its RZM M7/39 license that same year, yet on January 5, 1938 it was revoked. In 1939, the company was located on Dürerstraße 37. It remained there until the company ceased trading on September 13, 1963.
