Gebr. Krusius, Gazelle, Solingen

The Gebrüder Krusius, Stahlwarenfabrik, company was founded in 1886, by August and Emil Krusius, two of Karl Julius Krusius' sons. In 1886, Ewald Krusius, another brother, emigrated to 296 Broadway in New York City, USA to form "Krusius Bros.". Krusius Bros. marketed the knives made by their family in Solingen. Gebrüder Krusius registered with the Solingen authorities on January 24, 1888. By the late 1800's and early 1900's, Krusius was manufacturing and selling razors (exported to England), scissors, nailfiles and manicure instruments, pocket knives and table knives and cutlery. Krusius' "GAZELLE" trademark was registered in 1913 and again in 1920. On December 1, 1920, Gebr. Krusius became a joint stock company (Aktiengesellschaft). In the 1922 Solingen und sein Industriebezirk, Krusius advertised their goods being exported throughout the world. In the 1928 DRAB, Krusius advertised all types of knives and scissors which they showed only the gazelle framed within an oval trademark. In 1929, the company was recorded at Viktoriastrasse 29 (subsequently renamed Beethovenstrasse in 1970) in Solingen-Wald. Come the Third Reich, early era SA daggers were made. Fisher estimates 6,000 were made. In 1935, Krusius did not receive an RZM license. In 1939, Erwin Krusius of Gebr. Krusius was listed as the owner of Abr. Wundes Union-Werk, Hermann Schülder, and Emil Gustav Maus. By 1942, safety-razor blades were being included in the list of products. In 1969, Gebr. Krusius had been acquired by Eugen Weber (the owner of Jowika Stalhwarenfabrik, Eugen Weber & Altenbach, and the Maus, Schülder and Wundes companies). In 1986 enquiries to these firms were referred to WESTA-Schneidwaren, of Wittkullerstrasse 42. Eugen Weber died on October 9, 1983, leaving his business' in debt. Liquidation was concluded on November 25, 1983, and the remaining stock and machinery were sold by auction on March 13, 1984.
