The Gebrüder Torley, Stahlwarenfabrik, company began in 1850. On May 21, 1875, Ludwig Torley registered its trademark of: an encircled butterfly. In 1914, the owners were listed as W. Torley and C. Osthoff. In its beginnings the firm focused on the manufacturing and sale of: scissors, shears, fine cutlery, cake servers and cutlery blades. In the 1922 Solingen und sein Industriebezirk advertisement above, it lists Robert Ernst Külenberg as owner, who also owned Overbruck & Co. at that time. The two-business' worked together, sharing the butterfly trademark. In 1929, the company was located on Burgerlandstrasse 11a. Torley was then advertising: tableware made of steel, stainless steel, plain nickel, bronze and nickel silver. Come the Third Reich era, early SA daggers were being made-Fisher estimates 1,000. It is presumed that the company ceased trading after the war.
