Herder & Sohn, Diogenes, Solingen-Ohligs

The Herder & Sohn, Stahlwarenfabrik, company began in 1923. It registered with the Solingen chamber of commerce on November 18, 1927. The company was located on Kiefernstrasse 2 in Solingen-Ohligs. Herder & Sohn's trademark of: the philosopher Diogenes carrying a lamp was registered on September 5, 1930. The owner was recorded in 1939 as Friedrich Herder. Come the Third Reich, early era SA/NSKK daggers were manufactured. The business survived the war and continued to make knives, cutlery and kitchen utensils with the "Diogenes-Werk" trademark. In 2012, the company was listed as a manufacturer of blades and knives, steel products, cutlery and plastic products. In 1998, the company's owners were recorded as Falk-Friedrich and Hartmut Herder. On April 22, 2015, Diogenes-Werk Herder & Sohn Stiftung & Co. KG registered with the District Court of Wuppertal. The company ceased trading on February 23, 2017. While it looks as though the company is still located on Kiefernstrasse 2, their website (http://www.diogenessolingen.de/) no longer works.
