Ernst Dirlam, Hoffnungswerk, Solingen


The Ernst Dirlam Hoffnungswerk, Stahlwarenfabrik, company was founded in 1854. The 1900 edition of the DRAB lists Dirlam as a knifemaker. Ernst and Carl Dirlam were managing directors in 1900. Come 1902, they registered the HOFFNUNGSWERK brand name. Come WWI, Dirlam was advertising the sale of: knives, pocket knives, scissors, razors and razor blades. From 1914 to 1928, Carl and Wilhelm Dirlam were owners. After the Great War, Dirlam was exporting products throughout norther Europe and Scandinavia. In the 1920's Dirlam was advertising the sale of military daggers. In 1922, Dirlam advertised in Solingen und sein Industriebezirk with depots in Copenhagen, Berlin, Bremen, Hamburg-Where they were responsible for exports to: Finland, Norway and Sweden-, Nürnberg, Paris and Warsaw. During the Third Reich, early era SA/NSKK daggers were manufactured. In 1935, Dirlam did not receive an RZM code. The company likely ceased trading after the war.
