The Koch & Rau, Messerwarenfabrik, company began in 1865 in Cannstatt, Württemberg. In 1899, Koch & Rau's registered their trademark of a: "KR" monogram forming a stylized pavilion below a coronet. In 1900, a branch was created in Solingen, while owned by Karl Koch. Koch & Rau was a supplier for many knife makers offering the sale of: steel, stag horns and celluloid for the grips. In 1914, widow Anna Koch, Konrad Koch and Gotth were all listed as owners. In 1925 and 1930, the company was manufacturing pocket knives, scissors and razors, while still promoting the sale of steel and grip products to knife makers and blade forgers. During the Third Reich, early era SA daggers were manufactured. Fisher estimated 1000 SA daggers were made. Koch & Rau was not listed in the RZM Handbook.
