The Eduard Becker, Kolumbuswerk, company began in 1878. On March 7, 1893, Becker invented and patented (D.R.P. No. 70879) a corkscrew with a split frame to facilitate removal of the extracted cork from the worm. It registered with the Solingen chamber of commerce on January 3, 1895. The baker trademark was registered in 1902. A year later the "Kolumbus" brand name was also registered. At that time the firm was located on Blumenstrasse 21 in Solingen. E. Becker specialized in: corkscrews, and can and bottle-openers, along with knives, cutlery and bladed tools. Frau Hermann Stock was listed as the owner in 1914. By 1922 ownership transferred to Gerhard Tittmann. Come the Third Reich era, early SA daggers were made-Fisher estimates 3,000. The last records indicate the company at Brühler-straße as of 1986. No further records were found and it is presumed the company ceased trading.
