Wester & Butz, Solingen


The Wester & Butz, Stahlwarenfabrik, company was founded on October 1, 1832. In 1895, Wester & Butz registered it trademark of: an anchor with a star, in the center, pierced by an arrow. The company registered with the Solingen chamber of commerce on April 5, 1900. In its beginnings the firm concentrated on the manufacturing and sale of: straight razors, scissors, tweezers, household knives and pocket knives. Many of the pocket knives and straight razors were exported to the USA. Come 1910, Wester & Butz was located on Poststrasse 44 in Solingen-Merscheid. In the 1920's the company was owned by the Wester Brothers: Richard, Karl, Ernst, Franz and Max. Advertisements in Messer and Schere also listed: barbers shop scissors alongside razors and pocket knives. Come the Third Reich era, early SA daggers were made, Fisher estimates 1,000. In 1935, Wester & Butz did not receive an RZM code. In 1939, the firm moved to Litzmannallee 10 (renamed Bebelallee in 170) in Solingen-Merscheid. Not much is known about the firm's activities after the war. The Wester & Butz, Stahlwarenfabrik, company officially dissolved on February 8, 1979.
