What a great example! This is a two piece, die struck, tombak based, burnished and silver washed Luftwaffe Pilot Badge by GWL. The obverse features a centrally placed massive swooping Luftwaffe eagle with outstretched wings clutching a mobile swastika in its talons. The eagle is the attached to a half laurel leaf, half oak leaf and acorn wreath that is tied together at the bottom. The reverse correctly displays the "GWL" (Gebruder Wegerhoff & Lüdenscheid) maker mark along with the tombak; block hinge, flat wire catch, round wire pin and two counter-sunk rivets. The obvers displays absolutely beautiful details throughout the eagle wings, chest and wreath. 70% of the silver wash to the wreath remains intact! A beautiful example fit for your collection!
