What a beautiful and cool looking award! The 3rd Class Social Welfare Award is a two piece die struck construction that has been fire gilded and finished with black and white enamel work. The obverse features a separately applied, black and gold outlined, closed winged, Social Welfare national eagle with a gold wreathed black mobile swastika in its talons. The eagle is above a white square cross that is boarded in gold. The reverse shows a gold square cross. The detail, fire gilt and enamel work are just beautiful! Attached to the top is a soldered loop and ring. This piece also comes with approximately 8 1/2 inches of folded, ribbed, red and white rayon ribbon. The ribbon is in great shapeThe award comes housed in its appropriate case. The case is made of wood and pressed cardboard, with a simulated, grained, red leather covering. To the front is a spring loaded, closure button. To the back is a magnetic, staggered, internal bar hinge. Both function well. The interior of the top lid of the case is lined in a blue satin and has an underlying pad. The top also has a separate belt which has an outline of “Ehrenzeichen für deutsche Volkspflege 3. Stufe” (Honor for German people care third stage) and holds the ribbon. The scrips is very hard to see. The bottom interior of the case is made of a blue felt material that outlines the award. The case is in excellent condition! A complete piece just right for your collection!
