A highly desired piece among collectors this one I picked up directly from the Vet's family last week! This has never been cleaned, (except wiping the grease off the blade. It's never been taken apart or messed with. The blade on this one is excellent! The dark and crisp acid etched "Meine Ehre heist Treue" motto is beautifully executed and wonderfully contrasts the bright blade! The crossgrain is easily visible throughout and runs the full length of the blade! The blade ends at a perfect tip and just a bit of age towards the end, it continues to hold a nice and tight fit! There is no maker mark, which is exactly how they were issued from the factory. The blade rates a solid Exc++. It shows minor spotting and age greying throughout. The steel based, black anodized scabbard on this one looks great! It shows minor spotting throughout yet hold a nice and dark finish! It continues to remain completely dent-free! The steel based, nickel-silver plated fittings look nice and bright with 97% plating coverage. The ball has a hit to it which has slightly split the ball. All six screws remain intact. The chain is the later Type II variation that is steel based, nickel plated and black burnished. The chain links show wonderful detail to the sculls and SS runes! It's really something when you can see each individual teeth to the skulls! The correct first upper link is clearly "SS" proof marked. The clip looks great and works well. The spring was broke when I got it so I replaced it no one would ever know but I like to be complete in my descriptions. The alloy based, nickel-silver plated crossguards are in nice shape matching the scabbard fittings quite well. The black hardwood grip looks great! There are some minor flakes above the roundel and the commonly seen pressure marks throughout but that's it. The silver washed eagle reveals much of its copper base coating. The SS roundel retains 99% of its enamel! This is a great piece that I am sure you will be happy to have in your collection!
