Etched Lion Head Army Sword by C. Wüsthof

What an excellent piece! Complete with all the accoutrements and a wonderful looking imperial 32 inch triple etched blade that has been factory re-hilted in WWII! This guy must have been in the army for quite some time! The triple frosted etch is quite exquisite! It depicts an ornate design with a horse's head, "Reiter-Regiment 10 Torgan", and a staged helmet, trumpet, flag and sword design to the front. The spine is full of laurel leaves and the reverse displays a horse battle scene among other staged military pieced groupings. The stamped "Carl Wusthof Solingen" maker mark is beautifully executed. The tip is perfect as is the fit! A wonderful blade that rates an easy NM! It only has minor surface scratches and a few rough spots the edge. The steel based black enamel painted scabbard looks great! It shows minor aging yet retains 90% of its original paint coverage! It continues to have both throat retaining screws and remains completely dent free! The scabbard to hilt fit is perfect. The "P" guard, lion head hilt is constructed out of a brass base that has been gold gilded. The whole hilt depicts wonderful detail throughout! The eagle crossguard is beautiful and the lion head pommel is exquisite with both red glass eyes and the guard coming out of its mouth! The hand enhanced details are just beautiful as well! The wood based, black celluloid covered grip is in wonderful condition! No cracks chips or damage! The double twisted brass wire wrap in nicely secured and all intact. This wonderful piece comes complete with a brown leather hanger and portepee! The hanger has some age cracking to the back and the clip works well. The portepee has some minor fraying to the flatwire but that's it. Both are in excellent condition! A wonderful example of a complete etched lion head sword!!
