Another solid example of a 2nd Luft! The blade on this one looks good. It has a tight fit, sharp tip and the acid etched "AWS Alcoso Solingen" maker mark is nicely executed! The crossgaining can easily be seen the whole length of the blade. Overall the blade rates Exc+/Exc++. There is some age grey and spotting throughout along with some rough areas to the edges. The original brown leather buffer pad remains intact. The steel based, nickel-silver plated scabbard looks great. It is wonderfully detailed with oak leaves and acorns and random pebbling throughout. There is some minor oxidization spotting throughout. There is a large pressure mark to the obverse. The single more efficient screw remain intact. The matching patinaed crossguard looks awesome! It is beautifully detailed throughout the eagles feathers and wings along with the top side embossed acorns and oak leaves! The steel ferrule and pommel are both nicely detailed! The wood based celluloid covered grip looks excellent being chip and crack-free! The correct Alcoso specific single strand aluminum wire wrap remain in perfect condition and has a nice and tight fit. For those of you who are saying to yourselves, “Oh that looks funky...”. Well, you're right and it is completely textbook, that's how they made these, see Wittmann's reference pg 196! A solid example of an Alcoso variant.
