A solid example here! The bright blade on this one looks great! The dark and crisp, acid etched "Alles fur Deutschland" motto and "F. W. Backhaus Solingen" maker mark are both beautifully executed! The crossgrain is very nice and can be seen the full length of the blade. The fit remains nice and tight and the tip comes to a perfect point! The blade rates an Exc+/Exc++. It shows spotting/age grey throughout. The steel based, black re-painted scabbard body looks great! It shows the odd spot/mark yet retains 99% paint coverage and continues to remain completely dent free. The solid nickel scabbard fittings look great and match the crossguards in color, wear and patina. The top fitting has some marks to the bottom edge where someone probably took it off at some point, most likely to re-paint it. The ball has the odd wee bump yet retains a nice round shape. All four screws continue to remain intact. The reverse of the lower crossguard is Gau marked "BO" (Bayerische Ostmark (always in capital letters)). The scabbard / crossguard fit is near perfect and closes with a snap! The brown grained wood grip looks good. There are a few flakes and chips to the edges along with the common pressure marks throughout. The solid nickel eagle is beautiful detailed and has a perfect fit! The SA roundel also has a perfect fit and retains 100% of its enamel! A nice piece!
