Here we have a Minesweeper War Badge by Paul Meybauer ‐ Variation 4. It is constructed out of a die struck zinc-alloy base that has been gold gilded and silver washed. The oval shaped obverse depicts an explosion coming out of the water, this is below a Kriegsmarine eagle (with out-stretched wings, clutching a swastika within its talons), which is surrounded by an oak leaf and acorn wreath that is tied together on the bottom. The reverse of the badge shows the tombak; soldered block hinge, soldered tombak round plate rectangular wire catch and a tombak coke bottle pin. Nice detail remains. It measures approximately 2 1/8 inches high by 1 ¾ inches wide. See Vol. III page 118 of Franke & Robinson’s “The Kriegsmarine Awards” book. A fine piece.
