Army Kuban Shield

Please note this item is no longer available and you were redirected to our Archives.

A beautiful Army issued Kuban Campaign Arm Shield! The Kuban Shield was awarded to those who fought to preserve the bridgeheads in the Kuban region from February 1943 until they were abandoned in October. It is constructed out of die stamped bronze base that has been bronze washed and attached with prongs to a steel sheet metal plate hidden by field gray wool and a glued on paper backing. The shield shaped obverse depicts an open winged national eagle clutching a wreathed swastika in its talons, surrounded by "1943" (19 - left, 43 - right) and above a bannered "Kuban" and a jagged rectangular line separating "Krymskaja" (left), "Lagunen" (top-right) and "Novorossiysk" (bottom-right). This is all outlined in a quality field gray wool backing. The reverse shows 95%+ of its paper backing. It measures approximately 2 7/8 inches tall by 2 1/2 inches wide. An excellent example!
