1st Class Spange to the Iron Cross

Please note this item is no longer available and you were redirected to our Archives.

A good looking eagle! This was awarded to those who has already received the imperial 1st class Iron Cross and earned the 1st class Iron Cross again in WWII. It is constructed out of a die-struck tombak base that has been silver washed. The obverse features a National open winged eagle clutching a wreathed swastika within its talons, above a trapezoid bannered “1939”. The reverse shows a solid full back. This piece has the correct; soldered on block hinge, soldered on flat wire catch and coke bottle pin. All components are non-magnetic. It has nicely patinaed with age! It measures approximately 1 ¾ inches wide by 1 ¼ inches tall. See page 556-561of Maerz and Stimson’s “The Iron cross 1. Class” (Unknown Maker). A nice one!
