Here we have a Kriegsmarine Coastal Artillery Badge by C. Schwerin & Sohn, Berlin - Variation 1. The Kriegsabzeichen für Marineartillerie was awarded to the crews of Kriegsmarine land-based marine artillery and anti-aircraft units. It is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been gold gilded and blackend. The obverse depicts an anti-aircraft gun that is in front of a coast, is below a Kriegsmarine eagle (with out-stretched wings, clutching a swastika within its talons) and is surrounded by an oak leaf wreath that is tied together at the bottom. The reverse is correctly marked "Schwerin Berlin". It also displays the correct tombak; soldered on flat wire catch, soldered on block hinge and coke bottle pin. See Vol. II page 666 of Weber & Skora's "The Kriegsmarine Awards" book. It measures approximately 1 5/8 inches wide by 2 1/8 inches tall. Nice detail remains throughout!
