A nice etched piece! The etch is E. Pack & Sohne’s B Neutral pattern. It features a large font: “Zur Erinnerung An Meine Dienstzeit” with oak leaves and acorns bordering either side. To the reverse is an early “E. Pack & Sohne Solingen” stamped maker mark. The blade rates Exc++. It has minor age. The brown leather buffer pad is lost to time. The steel based black enamel painted scabbard looks wonderful! It shows minor spidering yet continues to hold 97% coverage and remains completely dent free! The original throat retaining screw remains intact and the ball is perfectly round. The zinc-alloy based, nickel-silver plated hilt looks great! It shows minor bubbling/plating loss yet holds 98% coverage and has a nice bright finish! The black chequered bakelite grip plates are in excellent shape. They are tightly secured to the hilt with two typical Pack style rivets. The button continues to work well! There is a green felt plug to the mortise slot. See page 147 of Techet’s “German Etched Dress Bayonets”. A great piece with a nice brown frog and portepee!
