Here we have a cased example of a Ehrentafelspange der Kriegsmarine! This would have been awarded to Navy soldiers who had once again proven further extraordinary personal bravery in combat and had previously been awarded the 1st class Iron Cross. It is constructed of a die stamped tombak base that has been fire gilded with polished highlights and covered in a protectant lacquer. The round shaped obverse features a centrally placed fouled anchor behind a mobile swastika which is surrounded by an oak leaf and acorn wreath. The reverse shows a hollow back with four prongs that tightly secure it to the correct red, white and black rayon 2nd Class Iron Cross ribbon. The highlights and details are beautiful! The award measures 1 inch wide and tall. The ribbon measures approximately 11 1/4 inches long. It has two holes through it where it would have been attached to the uniform. The award comes housed in its original case. The case is constructed out of wood and pressed cardboard, with a simulated, grained, black leather covering. The top has a pressed rectangular bordering. The back has a magnetic, staggered, internal bar hinge, which functions well. The interior top is lined in blue felt and has an underlying pad. The bottom interior of the case is made of a wood base and is covered in blue felt and white glued on paper. There is a blue rayon loop to the top which allows for easy removal so that you can put back in the honor roll clasp in it. Hidden inside is the original oxidized attachment pin. The double hinge is oxidized and it shows minor wear throughout. The case measures approximately 3 7/8 inches long by 2 5/8 inches wide by 7/8 inches tall. An excellent cased award!
