A quality early example ripe for the picking! The thin mottoed blade on this one looks great. The acid etched “Blut und Ehre!” motto and “Ernst Mandewirth Solingen” / “Ges. Geschützt” maker mark are nicely executed! The tip comes to a perfect point and the fit is tightly secured. Traces of crossgrain remain visible. The blade rates an Exc+/Exc++. It has surface scratches and age grey/spotting throughout. The leather buffer pad is a post-war replacement. The steel based black enamel painted scabbard looks good. It shows age spidering/spotting throughout. It holds 97% of its original paint coverage and continues to have a nice and dark finish, remaining completely dent free. The folded blackened leather strap retains all of its rivets and the snap continues to work very well! The scabbard leather looks great. The steel based nickel-silver plated hilt retains 97%+ of its plated finish. The quillion has been bent and has cracked at the stress point. The black bakelite checkered grip plates are in perfect shape and are tightly secured by two solid nickel-silver rivets. The HJ diamond retains 98%+ of its enamel. A nice early mottoed piece!
